In the wake of the massacre of the six children of Heiban Locality in South Kordofan/Nuba Mountains, we call on the Security Council to take immediate action to protect the civilians in Sudan’s conflict areas(Nuba Mountains, Darfur, Blue Nile). The children were killed on 1st May 2016 by an aerial bombardment conducted by the Sudanese Air Force.

The continuous catastrophic situation in the region of Nuba mountains/ South Kordofan is another sample of the failure of the international community to live up to its responsibility to protect civilians from their own government. The Sudanese government continued to ignore the security council resolutions regarding arms embargo in Darfur. The cooperation of many united nations state members have helped Sudan to grow and obtain sophisticated weapons and even start to produce its own fighting jets ( Safat) , militarily vehicles and artillery machines. Countries like Russia, China, Iran and Belarus, had recently stopped the publishing of the report of the Panel of Experts monitoring sanctions imposed on those behind instability in Sudan’s western Darfur region. “The Council had remained silent; in fact, it had not mustered a single sanctions designation since 2006. It had created a Panel of Experts, but one member – pointing to Russia-now blocked from public view a Panel report that could have better informed the Council’s decision-making.” Said Samantha Power, United States ambassador to the Security Council meeting last February
The Sudanese government state terror against civilians in Darfur, Nuba Mountains and Blue Nile is empowered by the wide use of aerial weapons by The Sudanese Air Force. The indiscriminate bombardment had the most death and casualties toll and destruction of civilian properties and infrastructures, such as schools, hospitals and farms. In addition to the bombardment on first of May on Heiban, the Sudanese Air Forces bombed Kairly Elementary School in Dellamy locality in Nuba mountains on the last week of April 2016. The attack injured three children : Mahir Saeid 8 years old, Falbus Omer 11 Years.

The Sudanese Militarily Industrial Corporation ( MIC) must be put under sanction, as it is the main provider for ammunition and military equipments for the Sudanese armed forces and militias, included the Janjweed known as Rapid Support Force.MIC has repeatedly participated in international arms fairs and trade forums such as IDEX and other events, marketing their machines named after the war criminal Omer Albashir

The suffering of the people in Sudan’s conflict areas must be stopped, and the international community must take serious action to end the Sudanese government state terror. Rights For Peace Foundation call on the Security Council, The African Peace And Security Council to impose effective arms embargo on the Sudanese government and to extend the mandate of the panel of expert to monitor further sanctions that should include the Sudanese armed industry.
